Lithuania sends and receives more and more parcels every year: online stores, marketplaces, ads for the sale of things - today the box with the purchase almost always arrives on its own, without unnecessary questions. And yet, parcels are lost from time to time or get stuck in transit for weeks. Let's figure out why this happens and how to minimize the risk - in 80% of cases, the problem can be prevented at the stage of packaging and registration.
You specify the city, name and street, but forget the zip code or apartment number - and the scanner at the sorting terminal does not recognize such an address. The parcel goes to manual sorting, and this is already days, and sometimes weeks of delay.
The sticker on the seam of the box, on the tape or on the glossy bag does not hold well. On the sorting tape, the barcode crumples or tears off, and the parcel becomes "it is not clear whose".
If you send the product in a box from a previous purchase, on which the previous label remains, the scanner can read exactly that one - and the parcel will go to the wrong person.
A parcel left at the door without the recipient's signature, an error when sending abroad, carelessness in the warehouse are also common reasons for loss.
The full address looks like this: name and surname, street, house or apartment number, postal code, city, phone number of the recipient. A format like "Jonas Jonaitis, Vilniaus g. 10-4, LT-01102 Vilnius, tel. +370 6 0000000" is recognized by the scanner instantly, without manual processing.
A dense three-layer cardboard box holds its shape better than a thin one. The label is glued to the widest and smoothest side - without bends and without overlapping the seams.
The tracking number should always be saved - it is easy to track the path of the parcel. For goods more expensive than 50 €, it makes sense to indicate the real cost and take out insurance: then, in case of loss, compensation will cover the actual price of the item, and not a symbolic amount.
If the parcel is delayed or lost
First, check the status by track number. If it does not change for more than 48 hours, it's time to act: contact the support of the delivery service, preparing the shipment number, a description of the box (size, color of tape) and the contents. If the parcel is officially recognized as lost through the fault of the carrier, an application for compensation is submitted.
The scale, by the way, is not small: in the first nine months of this year alone, LP Express delivered more than 11 million parcels through its network of pashtomats and couriers, and, according to the company, over 90% of shipments through terminals arrive the next day - so a delay of more than a couple of days is really a reason to be wary. Omniva has about 500 pashtomats in Lithuania for almost 65 thousand cells, so if there is a problem with one pick-up point, there is almost always another nearby.
Are you going to send a parcel? Check the address and packaging on this list - and proceedings with the loss will most likely be avoided. And if the thing is still looking for a new owner, there will almost certainly be a place for it among the ads for sale.
