September in Lithuania is that rare moment when the summer energy of the streets naturally flows into a bustling season of concert venues, galleries, and academic stages.
It’s still warm and sunny during the day, but the evenings already carry a hint of autumn’s coolness—and yet the calendar of events remains as packed as it is in the height of summer.
The month’s highlights include a revamped format for Vilnius Day celebrations under a new name, a historic anniversary in Šiauliai, the return of the legendary fireworks show in Kaunas, and the kickoff of several sports leagues at once.
Let’s break down the month by decades and categories so you don’t miss a thing.
The main musical event of the month will be A$AP Rocky’s concert on September 25 at the Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas — this is the rapper’s first visit to Lithuania as part of his “Don’t Be Dumb” world tour, which includes 21 shows in Europe’s largest cities.
The event is organized by Live Nation Lithuania. As for those who have been waiting for Bryan Adams, you’ll have to be patient—his concert has been officially rescheduled for spring 2027.
On September 9, Snarky Puppy—virtuoso jazz-fusion and funk musicians and multiple Grammy Award winners—will perform at Compensa in Vilnius.
On September 12, Loftas will host a high-energy industrial metal night featuring Fear Factory as part of their Cybernetic Domination tour, with Crystal Lake and Hate also performing.
On September 23, The Rumjacks will stop by Vilnius with their Australian-Boston folk-punk sound as part of their Balkans to Baltics tour.
And for fans of more intimate and atmospheric music, Michelle Gurevich will perform her noir-pop and slowcore at Dūmų fabrikas in Naujoji Vilnia.
The Candlelight Concerts series continues at Vilnius City Hall—live string tributes to Hans Zimmer, Coldplay, and Imagine Dragons amid thousands of candles, a great option for those looking for a quieter evening than a big stadium show.
On September 1, the country traditionally celebrates Knowledge Day—with student parades and a festive atmosphere in Vilnius and Kaunas. Tourists should keep in mind that on this day, there is an official ban on the sale of alcohol in stores throughout the country.
From September 4 to 6, the capital’s main festival—“Vilniaus dienos 2026”—will take place. The historic Sostinės dienos event has changed its name and concept; it is now a massive fair along Atradimų Avenue, free concerts on Cathedral Square and Lukiskes Square, the 14th Vilnius Sports Festival, and a laser show over the Neris River.
On September 5, Kaunas will host the Krown Kaunas Autoshow 2026—a showcase of modified, rare, and sports cars.
On September 6, there will be two events: Kazlų Rūda City Day, featuring a fair and open-air concerts, as well as the vibrant The Color Run in Vingis Park in Vilnius.
And on September 11–12, the former Elfa factory grounds will host Loftas Fest—the only urban festival in the Baltic states, featuring electronic music, the Open Gallery street art exhibition, film screenings, and nighttime sets.
From September 10–13, Šiauliai will celebrate a grand anniversary—the city’s 790th anniversary. The “Šiaulių dienos 790” program includes festive parades, a fair on the pedestrian boulevard, the “Rudens mozaika” amateur art festival, and concerts.
On September 13, the Rimi Vilnius Marathon will take place—the country’s premier running event, attracting more than 10,000 participants across distances ranging from 5 to 42 kilometers.
From September 18 to 20, the Kaunas Book Fair will take place at Žalgirio Arena, featuring literary gatherings, publisher presentations, and discussions for the whole family. Running concurrently during these same dates are the European Heritage Days, featuring free guided tours and special access to historic cellars, castles, and manors that are usually closed to the public.
On September 19, the legendary “Fejerija 2026” fireworks festival returns to Kaunas — Darius and Girėnas Airfield will host an aerobatics display by the ANBO team, a performance by Jordana Butkutė, and a musical fireworks competition. During the same days, Gediminas Avenue in Vilnius will host the Fair of Nations, featuring the cuisines of the Karaites, Tatars, and Poles, while Kaunas will host the Fluxus Festival, featuring a wild costumed race running backward up Mount Parodos.
On September 22 and 23, the country celebrates the Autumnal Equinox—with fire shows, folklore, and the burning of straw sculptures along the embankments of Vilnius and Kaunas.
On September 23, commemorative events are held to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews—in Vilnius on the site of the former ghetto and in Paneriai.
From September 20 to 27, a wave of harvest festivals sweeps across the country’s regions: the main autumn event is the Varėnos grybų šventė, a mushroom-picking championship and chanterelle tasting in Varėna, as well as fall fairs in Molėtai on September 20 and in Lentvaris from September 25 to 27. In Vilnius during these same weeks, the Sirenos International Theater Festival kicks off, featuring contemporary avant-garde theater from Europe and Lithuania.
September traditionally marks the start of the LKL basketball season—the league’s powerhouses, Kaunas’s “Žalgiris” and Vilnius’s “Rytas,” take to the court. The Lithuanian national soccer team plays home and away matches in the UEFA Nations League. And for classical music lovers, the season opens at the National Philharmonic and the renovated LVSO Concert Hall in Vilnius.
Weather-wise, it’s a good idea to pack layers—September brings a warm “Indian summer” (bobų vasara), but evenings are already noticeably cooler than daytime. The most convenient way to travel between Vilnius, Kaunas, and Šiauliai is by LTG Link trains—they’re fast and avoid traffic jams between the major cities.
